Ghosts? A story about The Deering State

Ever since I was a little girl, I hated Horror Films, Ghosts and Aliens...but somehow, during my late teens it all changed. I actually found these to be fascinating topics of conversation and wasn't afraid of them anymore...Like many kids, I played with the Quija Board and made plans with my friends to see the latest scary movie on the weekend, so we can all get spooked out. Lol

But you want to know the craziest thing of all? The 2 homes I grew up in had some kind of paranormal activity, high and low at times, and while I did feel scared sometimes, I never really felt threatened.

So I started with my photography art during my high school year in 1996...Never in a million years, I expected to capture more than what I intended to. Weddings, Couples, Families, Babies, even Pets...but Ghosts? No, I didn't even had thoughts of these kind of possibilities.

But indeed...There was that one in a million time...

I had visited The Deering State a few times, both for work and for fun, as its such a beautiful historic place, and you know I'm a sucker for these gems!

My engaged couple and I were almost finishing up doing some gorge shots...We gave each other a hug to say good-bye, and went on with the remaining of our day.

A few weeks later, as I'm working on their shots, I see some kind of cloud in one of the windows behind my couple. There was also a ladder and a guy painting the inside of the Guest House, as I was photographing my couple right outside of this lovely spot.

When I zoomed in, so I can "work" that area and remove it...I realize that the cloud had eyes, a nose and a mouth. I compared it to the guy who was painting and even the ladder, and you can clearly see who is the human and who is not. Chills went down my spine as I took a pic of it with my phone to share it with both of my sisters, who in their teens, they started to be more sensitive to seeing the paranormal, much more than me. They both immediately agree it was what I thought it was...A little ghost.

At that time, I had my office at The Biltmore Hotel, another Historic gem of which I have a few stories to share as well.-and so I went to show it to some of my friends over there. Little did I know, that one of them had previously worked at The Deering State and confirmed this little guy was Peter.

A few weeks ago, I got a call from the producer of 1st Look - NBC NY, who was very kind to ask for my permission as they wanted to use my photograph "Little Angel" for their episode: "In search of the truth" that aired last night.

And while my photograph does show a little angel and you will get creep out...you can't help also but to think and feel way more beyond than just that...I felt and still feel sad and emotional, because this little boy died so young. He never got to grow up, he never got to get married and have a family, he never got to experience more of life as an adult...his life just got cut short...And this is why I think he still is there, wanting to live, wanting to do more things, etc.

That afternoon, I guess he might had been playing around in that room, and then he heard my couple and I talk and giggle, so he probably got curious to see what was happening outside. That why he's there in the corner, all quiet..like he peeked out, observing us...and was being curious.

As a final note...I wanted to say the following:

Friends, Life is too short to not do the things you love to do most... To not spend time with those you love the most and are so dear to you...Life is too short to hold grudges and to carry a complicated life. Surround yourself with positive, good hearted people. Enjoy the Little Things + Simple Pleasures in Life. Be thankful for those who make your life sweeter and better, for those who at some point in your life have done something special for you to treasure. Be humble. Be Kind. Treat others with respect, even while driving, don't cut people off, don't obstruct traffic because you are looking through your phone. Treat people the way you like to be treated.

Oh, I almost forgot...Not sure if you can see it, but after seeing this photo once again after a while, now I get to see 2 more faces there. My nephew says its Mrs. Deering. What do you think? I'd love to know!

Happy Halloween!

Andrea :)
